Make an ESPN College Game Day Board for FREE!

The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin.

 

KCN Railroad


The 16-gauge railroad on the north section of the Line Creek Community Center and Ice Arena is open weekends and holidays from May through September.The train will not operate in inclement weather.

Admission: $.50 cents for a single trip ticket; 10-trip tickets are $4.50; and 20-trip tickets are $9.00.

Doughboys & Bootleggers: Exploring Prohibition in Post WWI Kansas City


See a sneak preview of Ken Burns’ and Lynn Novick’s latest documentary film series Prohibition, which debuts on KCPT in October. Explore how the Great War impacted the Eighteenth Amendment and what Kansas City was like during Prohibition. The featured speaker will be Dr. Matthew Osbourne, a professor from the UMKC history department and author of “Rum Maniacs: Alcohol Abuse and the American Republic of Medicine.” Enjoy a cocktail before the screening by the mixologists of the Rieger Hotel and learn how to make a Pendergast a drink as powerful as the political boss it is named after. Co-sponsored by Kansas City Public Television, Rieger Hotel, and Kansas City Bartenders Alliance. This free event will be held at the Museum’s J.C. Morris Day & The Time Concert


Magic 107.3 presents Morris Day & The Time on Sunday, September 25th at KC Live! in the Power & Light District. The concert begins at 7 pm and is free to attend for all ages. Anyone under 21 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Parking is $2 at the KC Live and Cosentino’s Parking Garages. Bring your ticket to a KC Live restaurant for validation. Whisper Walk for Ovarian Cancer


Hosted by the Spelman Foundation, proceeds from the Whisper Walk go towards efforts to fight ovarian cancer in the Kansas City area by promoting awareness of the disease, creating widespread recognition of its symptoms and improving screening thus helping to increase early diagnosis.

Light The Night Walk 2011


Teams and individuals walk a leisurely three-mile route at dusk, carrying illuminated balloons: red to show support of cancer patients, white signifying survivorship and gold for those walking in memory of a loved one. Pre-event activities include a family-friendly carnival, food, music and entertainment.
